Daybound privacy policy

Daybound (“the app”) is published by Rodolphe Cambier. This policy explains what the app does with your data. The short version: the app has no server, no analytics and no account with us; your data stays on your phone and in your own Google account.
Data the app handles
Location. With your permission, iOS gives the app location fixes when you move. From each fix the app keeps the time, the country, the coordinates and the accuracy, on your phone. These samples are used to work out which country you slept in each night and, if you enable it, are copied to a “Location Log” spreadsheet in your own Google Drive.
Days and bounds. The country for each day, your evidence notes, your corrections, and the day limits you track (“bounds”) are stored in a Google Sheet that you choose or that the app creates in your Google Drive. A hidden “app_config” tab in that sheet holds your bounds and preferences.
Google account. If you sign in with Google, the app receives an access token and a refresh token, stored in the iOS Keychain on your phone, and your e-mail address to show which account is connected. By default the app asks only for the “drive.file” permission, which lets it create spreadsheets and read or write the ones it created; it cannot see your other files. If you choose “Use an existing sheet”, you paste the link to your sheet and the app asks for the Google Sheets permission to read and write that one sheet. It never lists or searches your Drive.
Google Maps Timeline import. If you import a Timeline export file, its points are read on the phone and appended to your Location Log spreadsheet. The file itself is not kept.
Where data goes
- On your phone: samples, a cache of your sheet, pending writes, tokens.
- In your Google Drive: the sheets described above, under your account and your control.
- Nowhere else. The app does not run a server, does not collect analytics or crash reports, and does not share data with third parties. Country names are looked up with Apple’s on-device geocoder.
Use of Google user data
Daybound’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google data is used only to read and write the spreadsheets you connect, never for advertising, and is never sold or transferred to other parties.
Your control
- Delete the app to remove everything stored on the phone.
- Sign out in Settings to revoke the tokens on the phone; you can also revoke the app’s access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Delete or edit the spreadsheets in your Google Drive at any time; they are ordinary files that you own.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
